RESPECT YOUR MOTHER
Imagine a world with no life, yet so much history. Respect Your Mother is a collection that brings light to the current environmental issues in our planet. As a young designer and adult, my love for fashion and my morals of protecting the environment have begun to clash. In my short amount of time on this planet, I have seen drastic change to our surroundings. Not only within the fashion industry, but in just about every industry. Imagining what our planet will become in another 22 years is something I cannot bear to think about. If we do not start taking action to protect our planet, the future of humanity is bleak. Each plastic bag we use will remain on this planet long after we are gone. Most importantly, our future generations will have to fix our mess. For my collection, I began by looking to the past, and I became inspired by blue collar workwear and the start of consumerism. The youth revolutions that took place throughout the 1960s and 70s was my biggest inspiration. Connecting these protests to the climate change marches that our youth is so involved in today was key, especially with today’s youth making their voice heard with their fears of a doomed climate future on the horizon.
